We all know how important it is to eat healthy.  Eating healthy and exercising regularly has been proven to help us lose weight, gain muscle, and live a longer, healthier life.  But what do you do if you don’t want to exercise and think healthier foods don’t taste good?  Well, I can’t help you with the exercising, but I can tell you about some super delicious healthy foods to start adding to your diet.  Studies show that just by eating healthy, you can begin to lose weight (and if weight loss isn’t your goal, eating healthy helps keep you healthy!). It’s no surprise that fruits are a healthy choice for snacking between meals.  Not only are they tasty, but they are naturally sweet.  However, be careful with how much fruit you eat!  Fruits natural sweetness comes from fructose.  Too much fructose can cause your body to store it as fat cells instead of burning it off, which is why I recommend fruit as a snack only.  Let’s take a look at a few of the best choices in fruit:

  1. Apples

Apples are a great source for a healthy snack!  They are high in antioxidants (these help reduce heart disease, cancer, and many other diseases), high in vitamin C (helps boost the immune system), and high in fiber (helps control blood sugar levels).  Add a little extra protein to these beauties by adding a little bit of peanut butter.  If you’re looking for a little fat burning boost, add just a dash of cinnamon to your apple slices!

Yes, you read that right.  You can eat healthy and still have a little bit of dessert at the end.  The key to desserts is not to overdo it.  A little bit is okay, a whole pie is not.  It’s also important you look at the dessert you want to eat and see if there is a better alternative.

            Dark chocolate is absolutely delicious.  It is full of fiber, magnesium, and loads of antioxidants to help fight those pesky toxins in our body.  It will also help improve blood flow and blood pressure.  Studies also show dark chocolate is good for the heart and the brain!  The best choices are anything with 70% or higher cocoa content.

  1. Smoothies

Smoothies are a great dessert alternative.  By using fresh fruits and almond or coconut milk, you can make a delicious treat that is very healthy for you.  Add a little bit of that dark chocolate for an extra sweet taste.

  1. Frozen Yogurt

Ice cream is always delicious, especially when it’s very hot outside, but it’s not very good for you.  It has a lot of added sugars and fats that make it an unhealthy option.  However, frozen yogurt is a delicious alternative to ice cream.  It has less saturated fat and calories.  Add some fruit for a healthy topping alternative.

  1. Chocolate Covered Fruit

This can be strawberries, cherries, bananas, or whatever else your heart desires.  Using dark chocolate to dip your fruit in is always a sweet and satisfying dessert.  Be sure not to indulge too much, otherwise it’s no longer a healthy choice.
